Mantis is a character portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This iteration of Mantis first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).

She is depicted as an empath with the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of others through physical contact. Mantis possesses insect-like antennae and a naive, yet endearing personality. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Mantis is shown to be a valued member of the Guardians, having grown considerably since her initial introduction, and is revealed to be related to Peter Quill.

Prior to joining the Guardians she was raised on Ego's planet to keep him asleep, a role that prevented her from gaining social experience. She evolves into a more independent and assertive individual as the film progresses.
